He is best known for his singles Never Miss, Social Distance, and Daddy. Perkins also owns an ATM company - MEffort LLC based in Greenville, North Carolina, and a clothing brand called MEffort Clothing.[1]
Perkins, within a short period of time, has come to become one of the most influential up-and-coming hip-hop artists in the U.S. He has released multiple songs with ambient sounds, and melodic trap beats that have received mass acclaim from the listeners, resulting in an exponential rise in his social media followers. His 3 most known songs are “What I Like,” “Daddy” and “Never Miss.”
Perkins has been featured in many major media outlets for his accomplishments and music such as Hip Hop Weekly,[2] LA Wire,[3] Thisis50,[4] Celeb Mix,[5] Artist Weekly,[6] New York Weekly,[7] and others.
Early life and education
Perkins was born on December 05 1994 in Brooklyn NY to Carolyn Perkins and Burnice Perkins. He grew up with 7 siblings and was mostly raised by his parents. His godmother Gina played a vital role with helping raise him until he could be given back to his parents, when his parents were financially stable. Growing up in church Perkins learned his way around instruments and established his newfound love for music. He also participated in several dance competitions and practiced with his older brother who ran a studio in his room. Perkins recorded his first song with his three closest brothers to Gucci mane's freaky girl instrumental.
Initially, during his school years, he wasn’t serious about studies but later became inclined to excel and graduated with honors. In 2018 he went to the art institute of Atlanta for audio engineering but didn’t finish and moved back to NY in 2019 graduating from Sae institute of technology in New York in 2020.
Career
Perkins started working while he was still in high school to help his parents with the bills. He did multiple off jobs at Burger King and Mc. Donald’s. In 2013 he joined the Navy and left in 2017.
In 2016, Perkins started taking music seriously and began performing at local clubs. Eventually, he got the opportunity to open for A boogie wit da hoodie in VA at the Norva in 2017, then following that opening up for several more big acts such as Lil uzi vert, MIGOS, blacc youngsta. Perkins then released his first two singles Mental Satisfaction and EENY Meeny that received positive feedback from his followers.
Perkins’ 2018 single What I Like reached over 200k streams on Spotify and a year later his next song Daddy received 40k views on YouTube which helped him build the momentum for the next release Never miss which received over 250k views on YouTube. In 2019, his father died, and he took a break from music to grieve. In 2021, Perkins dropped Summer Walker, his most recent song.
Apart from that, Perkins also runs an ATM company - Meffort LLC and is also heavily involved in event hosting and philanthropy work in the community. He also has a clothing brand called MEffort Clothing. Simultaneously he is also pursuing a major in professional acting at East Carolina University.
Personal life
For a period of time after leaving the Military, Perkins became homeless and slept in his car, selling hats out of his trunk to make ends meet. He currently lives in Greenville, North Carolina. Recently, Perkins hosted a turkey drive giving away 100 turkeys, and also conducted a toy drive.
