Education
After graduating from Hagerstown Junior College with an associate degree in Business Administration in 1976, Bartles went to Shepherd University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in. He then enrolled in Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania where he completed his MBA.
A decade later, Bartles received his second master’s degree, this one in International Business and then went on to do his Ph.D. at Nova Southeastern University. In 2003, he went to Indiana State University, where he received his second doctorate degree in Technology Management.
Bartles also holds an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from MIT Sloan School of Management.
Career
Bartles started his career in 1978 when he joined Fairchild Republic Company as an industrial engineer. After working for four years there, he started working at General Dynamic. Bartles stayed with this firm for over three decades during which he rose in ranks to become a VP and General Manager.[2] During his time there, Bartles held positions as director of international programs and contracts, program manager for international co-production programs, and director of offsets.[3][4]
In 2014, Bartles started working at UI Labs as a chief manufacturing officer and founding executive director of DMDII - an initiative started by President Obama that encourages manufacturers around the country to implement digital manufacturing and design technology in order to become more efficient and cost-competitive.[5]
In 2016, Bartles became the president of SME, an organization known for advancing and educating the manufacturing industry.[6] During this time he was also elected the President of the North American Manufacturing Research Institute (NAMRI).[7]
In the same year, Bartles became a senior tech advisor for ASME and a year later, director at John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center,[8] University of New Hampshire. In 2018, he became president at NTMA and CEO & president at NCDMM.[9] In 2020, Bartles was appointed as the CEO & President of The Manufacturing Technology Deployment Group Inc. (MTDG).[10]
