David H. Holtzman (born July 20, 1956) is an American cyber security activist, author, and entrepreneur. He is best known as the former CTO of Network Solutions.[1][2]
Education
Holtzman earned his BA in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh and a BS in Computer Science from UMBC. He is a Russian honors graduate from the Defense Language Institute.[3][4]
Career
Holzman was a cryptographic analyst with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and later oversaw the growth of the commercial Internet from 500,000 domain names to more than 20 million at Network Solutions.[1][2]
In 2001, Holtzman became CEO of Opion, a $7M venture backed market research start-up that parsed newsgroups and message boards to identify influencers but was unable to raise a ‘B’ round because of the 9/11 attacks.[1][5] He has worked with Blockchain companies such as DSTOQ,[6] IPDB,[7] and BigChainDB.[8]
He was the Chief Scientist of IBM’s Internet Information Group and helped design their Cryptolope DRM system.[9] He was the CTO for Senator Evan Bayh’s Presidential campaign in 2004.[10]
