Early Life and Education

Hetrick grew up in Southern California, where he spent his formative years in Corona del Mar and Huntington Beach. He went on to attend the University of Southern California (USC), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1987. While at USC, he got involved in rowing and developed a keen interest in military history and politics. After completing his undergraduate degree, Hetrick took a bold step and joined the U.S. Navy SEALs, dedicating 14 years to his service. Once his military career came to a close, he decided to further his education and earned a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.[4]

Military Career

As a Navy SEAL Squadron Commander, Hetrick was part of an elite team that demanded top-notch physical fitness. While deployed in Southeast Asia during the mid-1990s, he faced the challenge of keeping up his fitness routine in places without standard gym equipment. So, he got creative! Using a jiu-jitsu belt and some parachute webbing, he came up with a system that used his own body weight and gravity to do strength training exercises. This innovative approach eventually led to the creation of the TRX Suspension Trainer.[5]

Entrepreneurial Ventures

In 2004, Hetrick founded TRX (Total Resistance Exercises), introducing the TRX Suspension Trainer to the fitness industry.[6] The equipment quickly gained popularity for its versatility and effectiveness, becoming a staple in gyms, military training programs, and rehabilitation centers worldwide. Under Hetrick's leadership, TRX expanded its product line and offered comprehensive training programs for fitness professionals and enthusiasts.[7]

In 2022, after a period away from the company, Hetrick reacquired TRX during bankruptcy proceedings, partnering with private equity veteran Jack Daly to revitalize the brand. Beyond TRX, Hetrick founded OutFit Training, aiming to deliver mobile fitness experiences to communities across the United States.[8][9]

Media and Public Speaking

Hetrick has been featured in various media outlets, sharing insights on entrepreneurship, fitness, and leadership.[10] He hosted the reality TV series "Sweat Inc.," which focused on fitness entrepreneurs and their innovations.[11] Additionally, he is a contributing lecturer at Stanford University and the University of Southern California, discussing topics related to entrepreneurship and branding.[12]

Personal Life

Hetrick is married to Brittany Hetrick. He maintains an active presence on social media platforms, sharing updates on his ventures and fitness-related content.[13]
